Jan Coninx mainly covers commercial and business law, e-commerce, contracts, IT, GDPR and intellectual property rights. He earned his Law Degree at KU Leuven in 2001. In the context of the Erasmus exchange project, he studied in Rome at the Luiss Guido Carlo university (1999-2000). In 2002, he obtained a LL.M International Commercial Law at the University of Sussex, where he was the only one to graduate cum laude that year. He is a certified Data Protection Officer since 2017.

Jan Coninx was associated as a lawyer with Monard-D'Hulst from 2002 to January 2007. He was a representative of the Hasselt Bar in the General Assembly of the Orde van Vlaamse Balies [Order of the Flemish Bars] (2006-2008) and board member of the Hasselt Young Bar (2003-2005).
